Police are in the process of unraveling the extent of a potential serial killer’s carnage, after he made claims about murders that have yet to be confirmed by investigators. Danueal Drayton was arrested last week in Los Angeles and is set to be extradited to New York in connection with the murder of one woman and the rape of another – both of whom police officials said he met through online dating apps.
Drayton had been wanted for the murder of a nurse in Queens who was found dead in her home a few weeks ago, after she met Drayton on the dating app Tinder , New York Police Department officials said. Now, police sources tell ABC News that Drayton is claiming he was involved in three murders in New York and as many as seven murders in total nationwide – though no evidence has emerged to validate Drayton’s additional claims. So far, New York police have only connected Drayton to the Queens murder of the nurse, Samantha Stewart, and a separate rape in Brooklyn.
The NYPD is continuing its investigation into a Connecticut man suspected of killing a year-old Queens woman and raping a woman in Brooklyn—and who has claimed to have killed others. Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said on Tuesday that Danueal Drayton “has made statements alluding to his participation in other crimes, including other homicides” but “everything has to be vetted at this time.
Samantha Stewart, a year-old nurse, was found strangled, with her teeth knocked out , in her Jamaica home on July 17th. Her brothers made the horrifying discovery after they couldn’t reach her on the phone. Apparently Stewart had met Drayton, 27, on Tinder and, after killing her, he allegedly used her credit card to buy a ticket to Los Angeles.
On July 24, LAPD officers arrested Drayton at an apartment in North Hollywood where they also found a woman who was bound and being held against her will. He reportedly met that woman after “sharing an Uber ride. After his arrest, Drayton reportedly claimed to have killed other people in California, Connecticut, and New York. Chief of Detectives Shea said, “We have not been able to verify” a Bronx homicide that Drayton took credit for or “match it up to an open homicide” at this point.

In this file image made from police body-cam video, New York Police officers arrest a man on a boardwalk, June 21, , in New York. The man’s takedown by police, as shown in this photo, led to an officer’s being charged for using what officials said was an illegal chokehold. Judge Katherine Polk Failla’s ruling, a blow to public-safety unions seeking a way around a new state transparency law, came a day after the New York chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union won an appeals court’s consent to publish records of , NYPD complaints dating to the mids.
She also found that the unions had failed to show that officers would suffer irreparable harm from letting the public see complaint records. Failla said the temporary restraining order will stay in effect until 2 p. The watchdog agency, the Civilian Complaint Review Board, said it plans to allow the public to search officer histories on its website once the order is lifted.
The police department, which also probes complaints through its internal affairs bureau, plans to post information about departmental disciplinary charges against officers on its website, Failla said. Organizations that have long championed police reform lauded the ruling. Legal Aid Society lawyer Corey Stoughton said Failla’s decision “rightfully rejects the police unions’ baseless attempts to undermine the Legislature’s decisive repeal of Police Secrecy Law a and to continue hiding records of police discipline and misconduct.
A spokesperson for the unions did not immediately comment on the decision other than to say that they will be challenging it in the 2nd U. Circuit Court of Appeals. Failla’s decision reversed the order she issued after the unions sued the city on July 15 to block Mayor Bill de Blasio from making good on a promise to post a database of misconduct complaints online.

When I was in my early 30s, my husband of four years, partner of nine, left abruptly in the middle of the night. In the surreal weeks and months that followed, I grew increasingly apprehensive about the idea of online dating. But I was also a writer who worked from home, one whose closest friends were married with children. And so it was that, some four months into singledom, I gathered the courage to join OkCupid and head to a wine bar with Pete, a musician-turned-accountant whom I chose for his spectacularly anodyne profile.
Yes, online dating can be deeply demoralizing, a parade of indignities that throws into relief not just our self-absorption and banality, but our nihilism too.
