Read the Guide to reopening schools. Elementary schools will be equipped to reopen with increased health and safety standards. Students will be in cohorts, which means they will be with the same group of children throughout the school day. This will limit contact with multiple teachers and a wide variety of classmates. All secondary schools will open with increased health and safety standards and students will have timetables that will keep them in a small cohort of students.

Secondary school students will be assigned curriculum-linked work on remote learning days and, where possible, will participate in synchronous learning with their teacher and classmates for a period of each school day. Synchronous learning is learning that happens in real time. We will review these guidelines regularly in consultation with public health officials, and we will help designated boards to change to daily attendance models.

Secondary schools in non-designated school boards can open with regular delivery. Secondary schools in these boards typically have fewer students, fewer schools and smaller high schools. For both elementary and secondary students, in-person school attendance will be optional for the school year so that parents can make decisions that work for their children and family.

School boards may require students to pre-register for in person attendance by a certain date. If students miss the deadline, they may be wait-listed and offered remote learning until an appropriate class placement can be provided. Check your school board website to find out how to pre-register your child.
